Demerits of the Hyundai Alcazar: A Closer Look at Its Shortcomings

12 Sep 2024
While the Hyundai Alcazar offers a range of features and has positioned itself as a premium 7-seater SUV, it faces certain drawbacks that may deter potential buyers. Limited engine power, cramped third-row seating, and the absence of an all-wheel-drive option are among the key disadvantages of the Alcazar. Despite its feature-packed interior, competitors in the segment offer more value in terms of performance and space.
The Hyundai Alcazar, known for its premium appeal and feature-rich cabin, competes in the mid-size SUV segment with rivals like the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700. However, several factors may hinder its success in this highly competitive market:
- Limited Engine Options: The Alcazar comes with a 2.0-liter petrol and 1.5-liter diesel engine, both of which are adequate for city driving but feel underpowered when fully loaded. Compared to its competitors, which offer more powerful engine variants, the Alcazar's engine lineup may not satisfy performance-driven customers.
- Cramped Third-Row Seating: Despite being marketed as a 7-seater, the Alcazar's third-row seats are tight and uncomfortable for adults, making them suitable only for children or short trips. For families seeking spacious seating in all rows, this could be a significant drawback.
- No AWD or 4x4 Option: Unlike its competitors, the Hyundai Alcazar does not come with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) or 4x4 variant, limiting its off-road capabilities. Buyers looking for better traction in challenging conditions may opt for alternatives that offer this feature.
- Expensive Top-End Variants: The Alcazar's base variants are competitively priced, but the top-end versions can be quite expensive, placing them in competition with more powerful SUVs. Buyers may find better value in rival models that offer superior performance and features at a similar price point.
- Average Driving Dynamics: The Alcazar offers a comfortable ride for daily commuting, but its handling lacks the precision and engagement that competitors provide. The steering response is not as sharp, which may be a concern for drivers seeking a more dynamic driving experience.
- Diesel Engine Noise and Vibration: The 1.5-liter diesel engine, though fuel-efficient, tends to produce noticeable noise and vibrations, particularly at higher speeds. This impacts the overall cabin refinement compared to rival models with smoother diesel engines.
In summary, while the Hyundai Alcazar excels in offering premium features and comfort, it falls short in areas like engine performance, third-row space, and off-road capability. Buyers may want to consider these factors before making a purchase decision, especially with strong alternatives available in the market.
