VinFast India (subsidiary of Vietnam’s Vingroup) officially began operations with the groundbreaking of its 400 acre EV manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu in February 2024. Initial investment: US $500 million over five years, planned to scale up to US $2 billion. The plant aims to produce 50,000 vehicles annually initially, scaling to 150,000 units based on demand, and is expected to create about 3,000–3,500 local jobs. It is positioned strategically close to a port and airport to serve India and export markets in West Asia and Africa.
